Beautiful raised black ceramic teapot w/ red accents made by Koie Hiroshi (Reiko Studio), one of the premier modern artist of Tokoname Ware beloved by the Imperial Family and known for very functional teapots with amazing pouring ability and a complete lack of drippage no matter how you pour the tea!
Tokoname Ware is unglazed and the clay is known to improve the flavor of the tea more than any other type of pottery, with each individual color of the clay (Red, Black, "Bird" or Dark Green, Brown, etc.) having its own unique effect on the flavor
Artist mark on the bottom of the handle
Japanese teapots that are able to stand upright on its side handle are considered to be very well-balanced, easy to handle, and generally well-made, although some teapots will not stand upright by design and it isn't a definitive factor in practicality.
