THREE CLASSIC/VINTAGE ROBERT JOHN GUTTKE 'BODY SCULPTURES' CALENDARS 1993, 1998, 1999Robert John Guttke was born in Chicago and went to Rockford College in Illinois. He has made his home in Minneapolis Minnesota since 1976. His career in the arts began with drawings and sculpture. Exhibiting in a variety of galleries across the country. The camera, which had always been a tool, became a means of expression. He changed mediums. Yet the photography has always been the work of a sculptor with an artist’s eye for composition. The book Shadow Light published in 1994 contains forty of his figurative photographs. His images were published at note cards by Museum Graphics; calendars and posters soon followed, published by numerous graphics companies around the world. Photographs appeared in a number of fine art periodicals from Australia to Germany. In 2008 his first solo photography exhibition took place in San Francisco. That same year he returned to sculpture and took on various commissions.
He wrote a screenplay for the now cult CBS television series Beauty and the Beast. ‘When The Blue Bird Sings’ was aired in 1987 and remains a fan favorite. The story is about a quirky, mysterious, and charming artist who appears and disappears while pursuing the titular leads to pose for him. It is, of course, clearly biographical.
