    Description

1935: Actress Mae West is shown at the Sherman Indian School, Riverside, California: She gives the once over to more than 300 Indians braves in a personal search for Indians for roles in her new drama, Now, I'm a Lady. Four likely ones were picked by the blonde star and will be brought to Paramount's Hollywood studio for screen tests. She chose two big braves, (the two tall guys in some of the shots, Joseph Choree, who wears a black and white striped necktie, and Earl Gould), and two small ones. (The little guys aren't shown in any closeups.) Mae West said, "I'm sure I can use these boys, but I doubt that either will fill the penny-Indian role and I'm still looking--no Hollywood Indians for me." Photo is 8 inches by 10 inches in size.
